Una started yoga in the 1990’s and from the onset felt the transformative nature of yoga and the multiplicity of benefits the practice has to offer. Self -study and weekly classes kindled a deeper interest and Una completed her teacher training with the Irish Yoga Association in 2011. She describes her training as one of the most rewarding experiences of her life and maintains strong links with the IYA, and has visited India on a number of occasions with the organisation. “It was from my training with the IYA I learnt the classical roots of yoga and this greatly informs my approach to teaching and my daily personal practice”
Una more recently trained in IYENGAR YOGA with senior teacher Aisling Guirke and attained her Introductory level teaching Certification in October 2016. The life and teachings of B.K.S Iyengar continue to inspire her every day. Iyengar yoga offers a systematic approach to the study of yoga which is inclusive by virture of its adaptability to the needs of the student. The door of learning is open to all and this is one of its most appealing aspects. Una recently visited Pune in India , the home of the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute and continues to attend workshops and conferences with senior International IYENGAR teachers like Garth McLean, Eyal Shifroni, Firooza Ali, Bobby Clennell and Penny Chapman.
Central to her teaching approach is her understanding that the practice of yoga is a journey of self-discovery. The teachers role is as a facilitator , creating the right conditions for the student to progress through the practice. The atmosphere in her classes is supportive and friendly and the classes are adapted to the suit the needs of individuals in the group.
